Why she does this work
Erin Bartos spent the early part of her career on both sides of a bankruptcy case, representing creditors as well as debtors. It is an unusual background for a consumer bankruptcy attorney and a useful one. She has seen how the other side reads a petition, which schedules draw scrutiny, and where a case runs into trouble before it gets there.
She joined Sweeney Law Offices in 2014 and has worked on nothing but consumer bankruptcy since. Her cases are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 only, and she stays with them from the first call through to discharge rather than handing them on at each stage.
She appears regularly before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, including contested matters, adversary proceedings and post-confirmation issues. Those are the parts of a case that surface after the plan is approved, and the parts most filers never expect to deal with.
Erin earned her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School after an undergraduate degree in business and finance. She is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and has spoken on a panel at the Detroit Consumer Bankruptcy Conference.
