Why he does this work
Jesse Sweeney became a bankruptcy lawyer because of what he watched his mother go through with money. It is the reason the firm treats filing as a legal tool rather than a verdict on how someone has lived, and it is why the fees are published on this website rather than held back until a consultation.
He graduated cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 1999 and founded the firm in 2005. In the two decades since he has filed more than 1,000 bankruptcy cases across Michigan and Colorado, and is one of a small group of attorneys certified in consumer bankruptcy law by the American Board of Certification, a credential that requires substantial experience, peer review and examination.
He is admitted in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, which means he can file anywhere in the state, not only the Detroit side.
"I grew up poor, so I knew what it was like to live hand to mouth. My mother was on welfare at times, and watching her struggle helped me realize that I wanted to help people in the same situation when I got older, so I made it my mission to study hard, go to law school and become an attorney"
