Kellie C. Arman Schone

Associate Attorney

Why she does this work

For the first decade of her career, Kellie Arman Schone was the lawyer the lenders called. Her clients included Wells Fargo, Countrywide, CitiMortgage, Mercedes-Benz Financial, Chrysler Financial and Nissan Motor Acceptance. She advised them on mortgage lending regulation, disclosure violations, consumer credit reporting and collections, and she represented them in bankruptcy litigation: default, dischargeability, automatic stay, preference actions and fraudulent conveyance.

She now does the opposite. The institutions on the other side of a Michigan foreclosure or repossession are, in several cases, companies she used to act for, and she knows how their files are built, which arguments they take seriously, and which of their positions are weaker than they sound.

That background sits closest to the mortgage side of this work: foreclosures, loan modifications, and Chapter 13 plans that have to carry a mortgage arrearage. She reads a lender’s paperwork the way the people who wrote it do.

Kellie spent seven years at McKelvie DeLuca in Birmingham before opening her own practice in 2011, and joined Sweeney Law Offices in 2012. She earned her law degree at the University of Toledo after an undergraduate degree in communication at Dayton, and is admitted in four federal districts: the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Northern District of Ohio and the District of Colorado.
