Nicholas D. Chambers

Associate Attorney

Why he does this work

Nick Chambers came to law from a chemistry lab. He took a bachelor’s in biochemistry from Albion College in 2001 and a master’s in chemistry from Wayne State in 2004, then went to law school instead of into research.

He started clerking in consumer bankruptcy in 2005, two years before he graduated from Michigan State University College of Law, and has not worked in another area of law since. He was admitted in 2008 and spent his first four years at Walter Metzen & Associates in Detroit, one of the larger consumer bankruptcy practices in the state.

He has acted for creditors as well as for the people filing. Knowing how a claim gets built on the other side is useful when you are the one taking it apart, and it is why he is difficult to surprise at a 341 meeting.

Four of his cases have been reported in the bankruptcy courts, which means the arguments he made in them are now part of the record other attorneys cite. He has also spoken on stopping tax foreclosure at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Detroit consumer bankruptcy conference.

Nick is admitted in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, so his cases are not limited to the Detroit side of the state. He joined Sweeney Law Offices in 2021.
